This workshop is part of the Skills for School Psychologist Series. This session will review the role of anxiety in the school and classroom setting. School Anxiety/School Refusal is a growing trend on our education centers across the country. The problem lies in many areas – students who are afraid to go to school, parents who have difficulties setting limits, and schools that are tied down in red tape and rules that do not allow for good, common sense solutions to the school anxiety program. There are also children who are coming into our schools who have a wide range of psychological concerns, including traumas that some students have experienced either here in the U.S.A. or abroad. Knowing how to best handle these concerns will allow us to better serve the children in our care. Using Cognitive Behavioral Therapy and Exposure and Response Prevention Therapy, Dr. McGrath will review the treatments of choice for anxiety based problems and discuss how we can address these concerns in both a school environment and in the family unit as well. Registration deadline is 4/28/16. Event held at the Macomb Intermediate School District. Note-Due to funding guidelines, 100 seats are available for Oakland County Public School and PSA/Charter School employees at a cost of $15 per participant. There are 5 seats available for Private Schools and Agencies, and 5 seats available for out-of-county participants at a cost of $100 per participant. |
