Event Description:
Purpose of this Professional Learning Experience:
 
This session will underscore the critical importance of on -going assessment and its role in the teaching and learning process. Participants will more clearly understand both teacher and student responsibility for learning and how and why teachers must gradually transfer responsibility to their students.
 
Participants will become aware of multiple methods of checking for understanding through the use of oral language, questions , writing and projects and performances. Designed to be an interactive experience, this session will allow for expert modeling of key content by the presenter and multiple ways for participants to engage with Doug Fisher, the content, and each other throughout the session.
 
Specific Learning Outcomes:
This workshop will focus on Formative Assessment, paying specific attention to:
  1. Components of an effective assessment system Developing student ownership of their learning
  2. Checking for understanding to ensure quality thinking
  3. Tips and strategies for using a formative assessment framework to help inform instruction
