Event Description:

The Positive Support School Culture Model (PS2C) is a framework and professional learning series with embedded support for school teams wanting to synergize the core social, emotional and behavioral culture of their school. We use collaborative inquiry with school teams to analyze school student data, improve pedagogy and increase student engagement. A primary prevention plan will be drafted based on each team’s unique needs. Secondary intervention and individual student systems will also be explored. Based on the Positive Behavior Interventions and Supports framework (Sugai & Horner 2002) and the Comprehensive, Integrated, Three-Tiered Model of Prevention(CI3T) (Lane, Oakes & Menzies 2014), Oakland Schools model has changed from years prior in response to new information about "what works".

Specifically, our model:

1. Honors and supports the unique context and culture of individual buildings, capitalizing on strengths; designed to be flexible and "roomy"

2. Considers need for core instruction around social/emotional needs and related skills

3. Actively seeks and uses feedback from entire staff during creation of the primary plan of support; collaboration with colleagues over shared goals is increased

The professional learning included involves 3 full day and 3 two hour work sessions for school teams. In between, drafts will be revised with the whole staff for feedback and revision. After the series, Oakland Schools staff is available to assist with implementation.
