Event Description:

The everyday stresses of teaching are well documented, and can take a toll on health and well-being. Learning mindfulness practices can help. Classes over the 8 week period include experiential activities in mindfulness (guided meditations, gentle movement and emotional awareness exercises) as well as group discussion. Mindfulness is the natural human capacity to pay attention to the present moment with wonder and compassion. It can be cultivated to enhance your ability to focus and to regulate emotions. There are more than 30 years of effective research behind this approach for improving your physical and emotional well-being. Course participation involves a commitment to regularly attend weekly 2-hour classes as well as one 6-hour session on the weekend. In addition, consistent home practice is expected. Audio recordings and resource material will be provided. Class size is limited to 15 participants. All Oakland County Public School Special Educators and Administrators are welcome. The course is lead by Dr. Rita Benn, one of the founders of MC4ME (Michigan Collaborative for Mindfulness in Education). She leads similar classes with University of Michigan faculty and medical students.
