Event Description: |
This session will provide a fast-paced analysis, with ample opportunity for Q and A, on current legal issues under the IDEA and Section 504. The issues will be relevant to both general education and special education personnel the presentation will provide special emphasis on Sixth Circuit and Michigan court decisions. It will also extend to emerging trends in federal legislation and regulations as well as state laws. Illustrative topics include (a) child find and eligibility under the IDEA, including RTI. (b) eligibility under Sec. 504 in light of the ADAAA and the 2016 ADA regulations, (c) IDEA FAPE issues, including the Supreme Court's Endrew F. decision, parental participation issues and failure-to -implement cases; (d) the emerging emphasis on dyslexia; and (e) the parental choice movement. |
