Event Description:

Do you work in prekindergarten programs or early elementary grade-levels? Do you collaborate and consult with classroom teachers around early language and literacy learning? Are you familiar with Michigan's Essential Instructional Practices in Early Literacy: Prekindergarten? Come learn how school-based SLPs can work with classroom teachers (tuition-based preschool, early childhood special education, Head Start, Great Start Readiness Program) to support early language and literacy development in core instruction. Research-based strategies such as shared storybook reading, language-rich and print-rich environments, mediated writing and vocabulary learning will be shared. These strategies are referenced in Michigan's efforts to make a measurable positive difference in the state’s literacy achievement. SLPs will leave with ideas for consulting with classroom teachers and design intervention that truly supplements classroom instruction in prekindergarten programs and early elementary grades.
