Event Description:

The SIOP Model (Sheltered Instruction Observation Protocol) was developed to facilitate high quality instruction for English Learners in content area teaching. Research indicates that ELs demonstrate improved academic achievement when their teachers effectively implement the components of the model in their general education classrooms. This professional learning opportunity is for general education teachers with ELs in their classes, and ESL teachers.

The 3 day inservice will include critical background knowledge to understand second language development as it relates to academic progress. The presenters will share classroom videos and examples at elementary and secondary levels. Strategies and activities presented will be useful for classroom application. The SIOP Model is researched, respected and widely used across the US and beyond. The presenters are experienced ESL teachers and well trained in the SIOP components.
