Event Description:

This one-day workshop will provide an introduction to mindfulness and an orientation to mindfulness practice. Mindfulness, a way of intentionally and nonjudgmentally paying attention to what is occurring in the present moment, is an increasingly popular and effective intervention for use in clinical, health, and educational settings. This introductory workshop will introduce participants to the definition, mechanisms, and selected research on mindfulness for adults, children and youth. Issues related to the growing field of Mindfulness-Based Interventions in Education (MBI-ED) will be highlighted. Some selected programs that meet the research standards set by CASEL (Collaborative for Academic, Social and Emotional Learning) will be introduced. Since those who teach mindfulness need to practice it themselves, opportunities to practice will be offered throughout the day. Considerations for teacher/practitioner training will also be discussed.
