Children of Trauma is designed for school and clinical professionals who work with at risk and traumatized children. This course provides content related to grief versus trauma, trauma exposure, trauma to be viewed as an experience rather than a diagnostic category, trauma’s impact on the brain, the Adverse Childhood Experience’s Study and additional information and strategies to support the evidence-based structured sensory interventions TLC developed. This course lays the foundation that supports the evidence-based structured sensory interventions TLC developed. The research was completed in school and agency settings to ensure the actual programs could be supported in the environments where children are accessible. Learner will be able to:
• Distinguish the differences between grief reactions and trauma reactions.
• Examine the wide range of adverse experiences that can cause trauma reactions.
• Explore how trauma impacts brain functions of memory, emotional regulation, behavior and learning.
• Demonstrate how to be a caring, curious witness to help trauma survivors heal.
