Event Description:

Using the work of Constance Weaver, Kelly Gallagher, Jeff Anderson and other literacy researchers, secondary English Language Arts teachers will explore best practices and resources in vocabulary development and grammar instruction to support a balanced approach to writing instruction. Teachers will set goals for applying this learning and participate in ongoing collaborative problem-solving around implementing best practices.

The blended learning series will consist of three full-day professional learning opportunities (in Fall, Winter, and Spring) at Oakland Schools, interspersed with webinars, in which teachers can reflect on shifts in their practice and receive support.

Targeted participants include 6th through 12th grade ELA teachers, special educators, and Literacy Coaches. It is suggested that ELA departments attend sessions together if possible.
