Event Description:

This course will engage participants and motivate them to take action on behalf of children.

A portion of the training day will include presentation of the documentary integrated with a guided discussion. The focus will be on the school as the change agent, an interconnected team, including mental health and child care practitioners that supports healthy development of children, ultimately creating a thriving school. Participants will also learn how to find ACE-related programming in their communities and integrate it into practice while learning and practicing strategies and activities that support nurturing, positive relationships and appropriate learning experiences in a trauma-informed school setting.

Provides the tools you need to put your classroom, school or district on the path to becoming trauma informed.

• Gain an understanding of how childhood trauma impacts learning and behavior.

• Review actual scenarios and expert answers to tough questions.

• Learn 10 concrete steps to guide the creation and implementation of a trauma informed school.

• Get practical activity worksheets to copy to use with students.

• Receive PTSD Assessment, Life Events Checklist, ACE Questionnaire, and School Questionnaire forms.

Topics include:

1.) understanding trauma and its impact on students

2.) viewing trauma as an experience

3.) the link between private logic and behavior

4.) prioritizing social-emotional skill development

5.) establishing safety In addition to these topics, a documentary will be shown

6.) fostering connections

7.) promoting play

8.) collaborating with families and the community

9.) supporting staff

10.) collecting and utilizing data
