Event Description:

This course builds upon The Circle of Courage philosophy; providing a set of skills/tools to be used when intervening with individuals in crisis.

Topics Include:

• Review of The Circle of Courage philosophy

• Learn about the four universal growth needs of belonging, mastery, independence, and generosity

• Identify pain-based behavior and pain-based responses

• Understand how problematic behavior as symptomatic of "broken circles"/unmet needs

• Assess behavior using a "courageous lens"

• The importance of connecting, clarifying, and restoring

Learning Objectives

• Review the foundational beliefs and principles underlying the Circle of Courage model

• Understand the impact of unmet needs and broken Circles and their connection to problematic behavior

• Learn the brain science between how young people react to stressors and trauma’s impact on the brain

• Learn the importance of connection and strategies for positively connecting with youth

• Learn strategies for building response ability pathways
