Event Description:

BACKGROUND: The Michigan Department of Education recently released a Multi-Tiered System of Support Framework to guide districts and schools in implementing a systemic process for designing core instruction, interventions, and supports to address the academic and non-academic needs and assets of all students. The accompanying Practice Profile describes the philosophy, research base, and five essential components of an effective multi-tiered system of support. These "essentials" include the following: -Team-Based Leadership -Tiered Delivery System -Selection and Implementation of Instruction, Interventions and Supports -Comprehensive Screening & Assessment System, and -Continuous Data-Based Decision-Making.

PROGRAM DESCRIPTION: Participants of this session will explore the essential components of the MDE MTSS Framework and consider how they relate to systems in place in their districts/schools. Through a deeper study of the Practice Profile, teams will begin to build shared understanding of the supports and resources necessary for effective implementation of MTSS and reflect on the extent to which the practices are in place in their districts/schools. Teams will identify areas where future exploration and study might be needed to further support educators and students. An overview of the MDE monitoring indicators for MTSS will also be provided. Additional support is available through follow-up technical assistance and site-based consultation, as requested, to assist district/school leaders in using the Practice Profile as a tool to inform district/school improvement planning.

NOTE: The MDE MTSS Framework and Practice Profile will be addressed a part of the 2018-19 MTSS Leadership Network series. Much of the the information being presented in this workshop will be shared with Network participants. Visit the Oakland Schools MTSS webpage @ www.oakland.k12.mi.us/mtss  for information on joining the Network and resources to support MTSS implementation.
