Event Description:
This exploratory course focuses on emergent literacy for students of all ages, with significant disabilities. Individuals at the emergent level: Do not engage in meaningful shared reading
Do not know that writing has meaning
Do not know most of their letters most of the time
Do not have a functional means of communication
Participants will engage in self directed learning through modules that introduce instructional methodologies targeting how to Teach Communication During
Academic Instruction, Alphabet Knowledge and Phonological Awareness, Shared Reading and Predictable Chart Writing and Independent Reading and Writing. Participants will be exposed to strategies that can be used immediately in the classroom. Each self directed module in the series will have a virtual follow-up session to discuss what implementation in the classroom would look like and problem solve around any questions participants might have.
